Newport News looks to expand program that sends mental health professionals on 911 calls – Daily Press

Within the first six months of the program, two teams responded to 386 calls. In the past, most of the calls would have ended with the person going to a hospital. Under the program, 333 calls were resolved by a mental health professional and paramedic at the scene.
